Decorate a potato as book characters!

Why not bring a fun twist to readung with a potato decorating activity? Inspire your students get creative by designing and crafting their very own book character using a simple potato as the base. It’s a hands-on way to celebrate reading while encouraging their imagination! We’ve come up with some ideas to get you started: Dog Man, Harry Potter and Paddington!

Create a book in a box!

Allow children to get creative by using a shoe box to create a scene from a book! Whether it’s a book they’re reading at home, or one thet’re learning about in class, students should be able to imagine the setting and have it come to life! Grab all the crafting materials you can, and even encourage children to bring in any scrap materials from home for a sustainable perspective.

Decorate your classroom door!

Get your class involved with decorating the classroom door to showcase what they’re reading! This could be a scene from a book, such as below, or even creating a ‘hidden library’ entryway. For extra fun, you could even run competitions for which class created the best door!
